The 2nd annual Rogers-Herr
Wellness fair will be held on Tuesday, November 24
from 8-noon. Students will have the opportunity to visit a variety of
stations where they will participate in fun physical activities and
learn about healthy lifestyle choices. At the end of the day there will
be a pep rally where students can participate in relay races and enter
a drawing to win prizes. In addition, we are asking students to support
the less fortunate in the local community by bringing non-perishable
and non-breakable food items to school that day. These items will be
donated to the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina. If you
can help any time between 7:30am and 12:30pm, please contact Jenny
Shafer (tandjshafer@verizon.net)
or Theresa Cromling (cromling@aol.com).
Geography Bee

11/6/09 10:00am
All
RHMS students are eligible and
encouraged to demonstrate their geography knowledge and skills by
participating in this year's National Geographic Geography Bee! After
holding classroom competitions on
Thursday, December 17
, each RHMS team will select four students to represent them
in a school-wide bee in the auditorium on Friday, January 15.
Attendance is restricted to only competitors and parents/guardians.
You can brush up on your geography now with
the
GeoBee Challenge
, an online geography quiz which poses 10 new questions a day
from previous Geography Bees. For more fun brushing up, iTunes offers
several free and low-cost geography quiz apps for iPods and iPhones.
You can also purchase a GeoBee study guide for $9.99 through their
website.
If you have any questions or would like to
volunteer to assist with the school-wide bee, please
email me at kelly.stevens@dpsnc.net
. Team-wide competition questions can be directed to your
child's social studies teacher. Cool

Groceries
If you shop at
Kroger, Food Lion, or
Harris Teeter please relink your
shopper's card at the store's service desk for Rogers Herr. You should
do this with your Target credit card, too! Kroger is just a little more
difficult because you have to print out this
letter and bring it to them.
Box Tops
"Box Tops for Education" is a program
sponsored by General Mills. Just
collect the box tops on products such as General Mills cereals,
Pilsbury refrigerated items, Hamburger Helper, Green Giant frozen
veggies, Betty Crocker mixes, Huggies diapers, Ziploc bags, Scott paper
products, and Hefty bags.
Labels
Many Campbell products such as their soups, Goldfish and
juices have a "Labels for Education" sign that we are collecting. On
most products this includes the UPC symbol (barcode). Tyson product
labels with the Project A+ symbol are also being collected.
You can send boxtops and labels to school with your
child. There will be a plastic bag in your child's social studies
classroom for the collection. The team that collects to most will get a
special treat at the end of each quarter! Learn more about Cool Cash at our
website or just send me an email
at catherine.leonardi@duke.edu.
| Family Art Day by
Joanne Andrews,
RHMS Art Teacher
Added:
11/17/09 2:15pm
Students,
families, and the whole RHMS
community are invited to participate in the creation of a public art
installation. Come to the art room on
Saturday, December 12
from 9-12pm and spend some time making clay tiles. The tiles
and other found objects will be installed in a large mosaic in the RHMS
lobby. We'll glaze and install tiles in the spring. We are creating
this artwork in the spirit of Antonin Gaudi, Nikki de St. Phalle,
Philadelphia's Magic Gardens, Los Angeles's Watts Towers and the many
other art projects that enliven and expand our built environment. Any
and all parental involvement is welcome both prior to and during art
days. We will also be collecting old dishes, glass beads, silverware,
shiny baubles (preferably not made of plastic)- anything that can be
included into a mosaic. Please send me an email at
joanne.andrews@dpsnc.net
with any questions. I hope
you can join us!
