Students will
have the opportunity to learn about art history and techniques in
an exciting, hands-on class.
We have interdisciplinary focus that incorporates and reinforces the
learning that takes place in our core classes. Students will also develop
art skills and techniques in the following art mediums of drawing,
painting, three-dimensional sculpture, weaviing, printmaking graphic
design and
arts and crafts. If you have an interest in expressing your creativity,
this is the class for you!

The band program
is a year long course that does not require previous musical
experience. Students will learn to read, write, and play music on one
of a variety of musical instruments. The band program
offers multiple extra-curricular opportunities including the sports
band, jazz band, and individual solo opportunities. The bands have a
spring trip for 7th and 8th graders each year to various locations,
including Carowinds or Kings Dominion. Students must begin band at the
beginning of their 6th grade year. All students who are interested in
learning new and exciting ways to express themselves through playing a

6th
Grade Chorus

This is a semester
long course. The first quarter is spent working on fundamental singing
and music reading skills. We will work on singing on pitch as well
as singing harmony through the singing of simple folk songs. We will
pull from these folk songs musical elements fundamental to music reading.
The second quarter is spent applying these reading skills to choral

Grade Select Chorus

This
is a year long chorus class comprised of auditioned students. We will
focus on improving our reading and singing skills by exploring diverse
choral literature. These two choruses will perform as often as possible
for the public. Students enrolled in these two choruses will be able
to participate in State Choral events such as the NC Honors Chorus
in the Fall and the NC All-State Chorus in the Spring. Also, there
is a tentative plan to take two choruses on an out of state trip to

class builds on skills taught in the 6th grade class.
Students are presented with music that is more challenging. The 7th
grade string student will have more opportunities to perform in public.
Students that have not been in the 6th grade strings program may
have an opportunity to participate at the 7th grade level if they
are willing

course is an introduction to the study of the Spanish language and its
cultures. It allows students to perform the most basic functions of the
language and to become familiar with some elements of its cultures. The
emphasis is placed on the development of the four skills of listening,
speaking, reading, and writing within a given context extending outside
the classroom setting whenever possible.

This
course is designed to explore the nature of business in an
international economy and to study related careers in fields such as
entrepreneurship, financial services, information technology,
marketing, office systems technology, public relations and promotion,
and travel and tourism. Emphasis is on using the computer while
studying applications in these careers along with problem solving and
thinking skills. Communication and mathematics skills are reinforced as
students explore business applications and careers. Work-based learning
strategies appropriate for this course are service learning, field
trips, and job shadowing. Simulations, projects, and teamwork will give
students hand-on experience to the real world of work.
